Fresh bovine neck ligament is freed of adhering fat, muscle and connective tissue and lyophilized. No chemicals except distilled water contact the tissue during the cleaning process. The final product is a convenient starting material for the preparation of purified elastin by chemical or neutral extraction methods. The yield of dry elastin is approximately 65%. This elastin is insoluble in biological buffers.
Bovine neck ligament is the starting material used in the preparation of elastins EPC Nos. E60, E61, and E70 described herein.
